The true abolition of slavery was achieved when the Thirteenth Amendment was ratified on December 6, 1865. The first section of the Amendment declares: “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.” The Amendment is unique in the Constitution because it bars every person from holding slaves or engaging in other forms of involuntary servitude, whereas most constitutional provisions only constrain or regulate the government. It is unique in another way as well: although the Constitution obliquely acknowledged and accommodated slavery in its original text, the Thirteenth Amendment was the first explicit mention of slavery in the Constitution. When he tried to tell his friend Lulu, Lulu took Michii to see Kiki’s mother and asked for permission to go to the next village festival the following day. The next day, Kiki was still feeling sad, but he was surprised and happy when Lulu took him to enjoy lots of delicious snacks at other village’s festival. Kiki was happy. Kiki said that the world was beautiful and that they had to move forward with their hopes, such as the hope of being able to try other delicious snack variants in the future.

Etisha and Mishika met on Tuesday, 1 March 2022. Two days later, Mishika went to invite her new neighbour for her birthday party. She was made to by her mother who said, “You must invite Etisha since she is new. She can make new friends.” And she did. Mishika and Etisha were inseparable since that day! What bonded them was a hamster. When Mishika went to Etisha’s house, she saw her out in the garden chasing a tiny brown hamster. To her surprise, Etisha shouted at her, “Will you just stand there and stare or you might want to help too. Come and get this little thing.” Soon, both Etisha and Mishika were running around a tiny cinnamon-coloured hamster. Finally, both managed to corner the little guy and put him in a box. “What exactly were you doing? And how come your hamster came out of the house?”, asked Mishika in between her breaths.

One day, I met Kirby in the park. Then we decided to go on an adventure. First, we went to Japan and saw a big volcano. It was very beautiful. After that, we went to a hotel and stayed for two days. On the first day, we had dinner. It was delicious! On the second day, we visited the zoo. There were lions, capybaras, and monkeys. We had so much fun! Then we went to a toy shop and bought a Kirby doll. On the third day, as we were heading home, the volcano suddenly erupted! Kirby and I ran away as fast as we could. Kirby shouted, “Hurry up! Let’s get on the plane!” So, we quickly left Japan. Four hours later, we arrived home safely. We had so much fun in Japan!

Grandad then shared that his Grandma’s love was still present, much like the stars in the sky—though we can't always see them, they continue to shine.
