While Squeaky patiently waited underground, an entirely different world bustled with life above. The sun shone, casting rays on the leaves of trees. Ch6: First Flight, New Friends. Finally, after seventeen years, the day arrived when Squeaky felt a strong urge to dig his way up. It was a moment he had been waiting for filled with anticipation and excitement. He pushed and shoved until he broke through the surface, feeling the warm sun on his back. Ch7: The Importance of Community. He saw how the cicadas worked together, their collective song filling the air. Ch8: The Song of the Cicada. Squeaky discovered that the song of the cicada was a love song, a call to attract a mate and start a new generation. Ch9: Sharing Joy, Spreading Kindness. Our Kindergarten class is learning how to deal with big emotions. When they are feeling overwhelmed by big emotions they should tell an adult they need a break, how we can help them or what is making them feel that way. We want to help them understand their feeling so that they will be able to learn to self-regulate. We encourage deep breathing, breaks, walks, alone time and telling adults how they feel.

She flew in and out of clouds and almost over a rainbow to the land where the giants live. Layla gazed at this place as her balloon approached. She could see tall trees that towered and stretched as high as the sky. She could see huge houses that lurked in the darkness beyond. She could even see fantastic flowers whose beautiful fragrance danced on the breeze. When she arrived at the place where the giants live, the giants stomped their enormous feet and boomed with their enormous voices and crunched their enormous teeth. Layla didn’t care. She waved at them cheerily and then they made her Queen of the Giants. Soon though, Layla grew weary of the Giants and dreamed of her home. So she climbed back into her hot air balloon, drifted through clouds and almost over a rainbow until she landed back in the warmth of her very own room.

Arthur took Tommy to Central Park for some quality time, but work calls kept interrupting. While Arthur stepped away to answer yet another call, Tommy, feeling ignored, wandered off into the park. When Arthur turned back, Tommy was gone. Tommy woke at dawn in a quiet part of the park, surrounded by Felix, a cunning fox, and Penelope, a wise peacock. They quickly befriended him, teaching him survival skills. Felix showed him how to find food and avoid danger, while Penelope taught him to build shelters and think about the bigger picture, like the environment and community. As days turned to weeks, Tommy adapted to life in the park. Felix valued self-reliance and tradition, sharing tales of a wilder past. Penelope championed progress and cooperation, organizing the animals to solve shared challenges. Tommy absorbed lessons from both but began questioning where he belonged. After a year, Tommy had become part of the park. But Felix and Penelope argued over his future. Felix believed he was better off free in nature, while Penelope insisted he needed to return to society. Frustrated, Tommy shouted, “I don’t belong to either of you!” and ran off. In his escape, Tommy stumbled into the human world, startling several babies in strollers. Their cries grew louder, drawing the attention of Arthur, who had been searching for him all along. Arthur embraced Tommy, apologizing for neglecting him, and took him home. Tommy left the park with new skills and a deeper understanding of himself, while Arthur vowed to give his son the attention he deserved. Their bond was stronger, having weathered the trials of both the wild and the city.
