Maplewood was a happy town. But one day, news came that a sneaky weasel gang was hiding near the edge of the town. The animals were worried and wondered what they should do. Big Bucks Bear, who ran Maplewood Supply Company, had a plan. “We need strong walls and traps to keep the weasels out,” he said. Big Bucks told the animals that, just like during the Cold Forest Standoff years ago, they had to stay prepared and strong. But Penny the Raccoon had another idea. “What if we try to befriend the weasels or help them find a place to live?” she asked. She reminded everyone that spending too much on defense—like when the animals once sent nuts and supplies to faraway lands—could leave them without enough for themselves. Big Bucks was persuasive. He convinced Maplewood to use almost all of their savings to build walls, just like in the Squirrel-Bird Dispute over Nut Valley, when they built forts and traps. Soon, Maplewood was pouring all its resources into Big Bucks’ projects. Penny noticed that things around town were falling apart. With so much money going to walls and gadgets, there was hardly anything left to fix schools, parks, or even make enough food! “What if we’re using up our savings on things that don’t help us every day?” she thought. Penny gathered everyone and shared her plan. “Instead of building walls, let’s work together and share what we have. The world needs peace, just like we learned in the Forest Unity Days!” She reminded them that when the animals had shared their food and tools, they had more than enough. As the animals talked and listened, they realized that the weasels weren’t all bad. They just needed help, too. Penny and her friends invited the weasels to work and play together in Maplewood, and soon they were all sharing the forest’s food and shelter. He used his skills to help rebuild schools, parks, and homes, seeing that Maplewood was stronger when everyone worked together.

One sunny morning, a little dog named Benji woke up feeling excited. Today, he was going on an adventure! (Children start in Dog Pose – hands and feet on the ground, hips high.) Benji stretched his legs and wagged his tail. Then, he ran out of his house and into the big, green forest. As he walked, he saw a tall, strong tree standing in the middle of the path. "Wow! What a big tree!" Benji said. He stood still and stretched his arms up like the branches. (Children move into Tree Pose – stand on one foot, arms up.) Benji heard a soft "meow." He turned and saw a small, fluffy cat sitting on a rock. "Hello, Cat! What are you doing?" asked Benji. "I am stretching my back," said the cat. She arched her back up and then down. (Children do Cat Pose – on hands and knees, round and arch the back.) Benji and the cat continued walking together when they heard a hissing sound. "What is that?" asked the cat. A long, shiny snake slithered out from behind a bush. "Hello, friends," said the snake. He stretched his body long and lifted his head. (Children do Snake Pose – lie on the stomach, hands under shoulders, and lift the chest.) Benji and the cat were happy to meet the snake. "Do you want to come on our adventure?" they asked. "Yes! But first, let’s rest on this big rock," said the snake. The three friends sat quietly on the rock, feeling the warm sun on their backs. (Children do Rock Pose – kneeling, fold forward, forehead on the ground, arms by sides.) After resting, they all stood up, stretched, and continued their adventure together, ready for more fun! At the top Jens yells “I did it!” Jumps up and down and Lex says “Oh that’s why you let us do hard things.” 🥲" I could go on and on about how amazing Ava is as a nanny and what a blessing she is to raising my little men, and she is SUCH a huge blessing and incredible woman, but instead I can't help but see the parallel of that story and the role God has in our lives. I can't tell you how often I wish my lifelong trial would be over and how often I literally ask God why he is making me go through all this pain even I KNOW he could take it away... Then I remember the little and big wins along the way and the things I have learned and gained because of pain I am constantly in. God absolutely tells me where to step, but I haven't ever experienced the feeling of him completely lifting me to the top of the playground. I feel him watching me and cheering me along. Then I do something impossible and I jump up and down with joy saying "I did it!" and I know he's so proud of me. And just like little Lex I think to myself, "Oh that’s why you let us do hard things." Let's not forget to let God guide us. Thank God for the miracles we experience every day

But as soon as the Pink Gorilla arrived at his zoo, Mr. Bumble couldn’t stop wondering. “Why not?” he thought. “Will it tickle? Will it make him dance? Will something crazy happen?” Finally, he couldn’t wait any longer. One quiet day, Mr. Bumble tiptoed into the gorilla’s enclosure. The Pink Gorilla stared at him with big, curious eyes. Slowly, Mr. Bumble reached out his hand and… tapped the Pink Gorilla on his right shoulder. Suddenly, the gorilla stood up, roared, and started chasing him! “AHHHH!” Mr. Bumble screamed. He ran through the monkey house, over the giraffe field, and around the elephant pool. The Pink Gorilla stayed right behind him the whole time! Mr. Bumble jumped on a scooter, but the Pink Gorilla grabbed a skateboard and zoomed after him. He swam across a pond, but the Pink Gorilla grabbed a floaty and paddled right behind. Finally, Mr. Bumble stopped, out of breath. The Pink Gorilla leaned in close and said… “TAG! YOU’RE IT!” Then the Pink Gorilla laughed and sprinted back to his pen. From that day on, Mr. Bumble followed the rule: Never touch a Pink Gorilla’s right shoulder. You just might get a surprise!
