Temperance involves moderation in one's thoughts, feelings, and actions, and having self-control. John Jr and Hopsi wanted to learn how they could practice temperance. 3. John Jr and Hopsi was going to practice abstinence of something that habitual in their life for a week. They made a list of their habits and each decided on on thing. John Jr was going to give up his game boy and Hopsi was going to give up carrots. 4. John Jr and Hopsi decided they were also going change how they did stuff. Try to make some healthy habits. 4. A childrens book about a young Lakota Sioux Native American boy named Deacon. This story takes you through the daily things that Lakota Sioux do each day. Sioux means "little snakes" and Deacon is a proud member of the snake house. Lakota are known for their warrior culture and their Ghost Dance to protect their lands. Lakota Sioux manly hunt and eat buffalo. They would eat chokecherries and enjoy herbal tea. They use the buffalo skin to make blankets and teepees and moccasins for their feet. They live in "Tipis" the Sioux word for dwelling. The Lakota Sioux live in North America clustered in what is now Wisconsin, Minnesota and North and South Dakota or the Great Plains. Lakota Sioux were known for their beadwork and porcupine quillwork. Lakota Sioux would use canoes to travel and dogs/sleds to pull things. When horses were introduced to them it changed their culture. Long hair is important to the Lakota Sioux and should not be cut unless you are mourning the loss of a loved one. Lakota children played with rawhide dolls and throwing the willow spear. It is important to pass on the Lakota traditions and remember their 7 values of respect, compassion, honesty, generosity, wisdom, humility, and prayer.
Rotem is going to Amir's birthday party. She's excited, buys him a present he likes and makes him a card. She then walks over the birthday with Dad. At the party, there are many kids from Rotem's school. They're all playing and Rotem greets Amir and plays with all the kids. But when Amir's dad brings the cake, Rotem has a problem: all the kids push ahead and ask for cake, and she doesn't want to push and doesn't know how to ask for cake. She asks Dad, who tells her she should go up to Amir's mom, put her hand forward and ask. Rotem tries. She's too shy to talk, but she puts her hand out, Amir's mom understands and gives her a piece of cake. Rotem eats the cake with all the other kids. Rotem goes home proud of herself, and Dad is proud of her for asking for cake.
